Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can a parent change their child’s teacher?
A. Changes will only be granted if there are extenuating circumstances.
 
Q. Are teacher requests honored?
A. Teacher requests ordinarily will not be honored. We do not want to become a shopping mall for teachers.
 
Q.   What time does school begin?                           Q. When does the school day end?
A.   The school day begins at 8:25 a.m.                      A. Students are dismissed at 3:25 p.m.
 
Q.   What are the academic programs offered at Einstein?
A.   Our students schedule consists of language arts (reading and writing), math, social studies, science, physical education, art and music.
 
Q. How do I report a student absence?
A. If a student absence is necessary, parents are asked to call (248) 336-7640 or the teacher’s classroom phone.
 
Q. Is homework provided for students when they are absent?       
A.  Homework will be provided for absences that are three (3) days or more in duration. Homework for shorter absences may be picked up upon return or from a fellow classmate.
 
Q. How long does it take to prepare requested homework?
A. Requests for homework will take 24 hours to prepare and can be picked up in the main office.
 
Q. What should my child do if she/he loses personal property?
A. A student should inform their classroom teacher about the loss, as well as check lost and found in the main office area.
 
Q. Is there a school/library?
A. Yes. Children are encouraged to check out books on a daily basis.
 
Q. How are parents notified if school is canceled due to inclement weather?
A. All school closings are announced on radio and television stations.
 
Q. How much do lunches cost?
A. Student lunches cost $3.00. Students who bring lunch from home may purchase milk for 30 cents.
 
Q. May my child bring friends and/or relatives to school during regular school hours?
A. No. Friends and/or relatives may not visit Einstein during regular school hours.
 
Q. How are parents notified if school is canceled due to inclement weather?
A. All school closings are announced on radio and television stations. There is no telephone fan out system in the Oak Park School District.
 
Q. How often are report cards sent home?
A. Report cards are sent home four times during the school year. Progress reports are also given out four times a year as well, in between the marking periods. Refer to the building calendar for the specific dates.            
 
Q. Does Einstein schedule parent-teacher conferences?
A. Yes. Parent-Teacher conferences are in the fall and again in the spring. Conference times are 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. and 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. Parents are encouraged to make appointments with their child’s teacher to avoid waiting.
 
Q. May my child bring medication to school?
A. Medication that must be taken by a student during school hours must be sent to the main office, with the exception of an inhaler. A Medication Permission Form must be completed by the parent and physician authorizing school personnel to administer any medication. This applies to prescription as well as over the counter medicines.
 
Q. Are notes sent home with students announcing upcoming events?
A. Yes. Upcoming events as well as updates and changes are sent home with students as they occur. Always refer to the building calendar as well.
 
Q. How do I excuse and pick up my child during the school day?
A. If a student needs to be excused during the day, a parent/guardian must contact the main office. A parent/guardian must sign the student out in the main office. Releases will not be done via the phone. Additionally, considerations should be given to the number of times a student is released – instructional time that is missed cannot be made up.
 
Q. What classroom supplies will my child need?
A. On the first day of school, teachers will provide students with a list of supplies students need to have, along with any other classroom “donations” they ask of parents.
 
Q. Will my child have time to eat breakfast?
A. Einstein provides all students with breakfast, everyday. We participate in a universal breakfast program. 
 
Q. What is the best way to contact my child’s teacher?
A.   Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s teacher before the beginning of the school
day (via phone), during plan or lunch time. The E-mail addresses of staff members is included
in the Parent/Student Handbook. Phone calls will not be forwarded to staff during the school day.
