Oak Park Alternative Education Center, formerly Lessenger Elementary School, is open!

We are accepting registration applications for eligible 16 to 19 year-old students from the Oak Park School District and any of the surrounding school districts in the metro-Detroit area.

.Oak Park Alternative Education Center offers a combination of high school completion courses and vocational training for 16 to 19 year-olds. Earned credits will go towards an accredited diploma from the Oak Park School District. Graduation requirements are a total of 20 credit hours. 

Scheduling Information

Students will attend classes Monday through Thursday, 8:00am to 2:30pm. Fridays is “open-lab” for all students, 8:00am to 2:30pm.

Students will take their academic classes on Mondays and Wednesdays and vocational classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays or vice-versa. Friday classes are not in session, but students can attend school for “open-lab” to work on their academic classes with teachers.

Instruction

All core classes under the Michigan Merit curriculum are offered. Students will complete their academic classes with assistance from secondary, highly-qualified certified teachers. Students will also be able to access and work on their academic classes outside of school hours from any computer with Internet. Vocational programs offered this Winter 2011 semester are Information Systems and Medical Office Assistant. These vocational programs will be taught by qualified, experienced instructors in their respective industry fields of expertise.
