About

The Oak Park Freshman Institute (OPFI) is a comprehensive, ninth grade campus with a small learning community in Oak Park Schools. We provide a social-emotionally nurturing transition to our tenth through twelfth grade campus to ensure that students are academically and socially prepared for the next step of their educational journey.

The Classroom

With state of the art classrooms, our dedicated teaching staff gives students the tools and skills needed to reach their maximum potential. We believe that high expectations yield great results. We offer a variety of Honors courses, rigorous test preparation for standardized assessments, and a variety of extra-curricular activities to create a personalized educational experience for every student.

We offer a selection of core classes and wide variety of electives that include Band, Choir, Coding, Dance, Exploration of Sound, Art, and Humanities, among others.

Our classrooms include a modern 1:1 laptop environment with interactive Promethean Boards, Document Cameras, and Google Classroom access.  Technologies such as these are shown to improve engagement, improve knowledge retention, encourage individual learning, as well as promote collaboration.

Program Offerings

Our plethora of program offerings include C2 Pipeline with Wayne State University, regularly scheduled college tours, and student groups including SWAG, “Students with Awareness and Goals,”  Project Upward Bound, and PURE. We have Coding for Girls, Film Studies, Manga for comic-design enthusiasts, and many more other exciting opportunities.

Additionally, our students have immediate access to an onsite Youth Assistance Program that includes skill building, summer camp scholarships, youth recognition programs, and educational incentives.
