Graduation Requirements

Graduation Requirement

Seniors must have successfully completed all the requirements for graduation to take part in commencement.

Grade Level Classification (credit minimum):
 

  • Ninth Grade             0-5.5 credits
  • Tenth Grade             6-11.5 credits
  • Eleventh Grade       12-17.5 credits
  • Twelfth Grade          18-22+ credits

8 semesters of attendance. A semester of attendance is defined as a semester in which a student is enrolled in 6 or more classes. 

Earn a minimum of 22 cumulative credits earned in grades 9-12 as listed below. 

  • 4 credits in English including English Language Arts 9, ELA - 10, ELA - 11, ELA - 12 
  • 4 credits in Mathematics including Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus / Math-related electives 
  • 3 credits in Science including Biology, Chemistry or Physics and science electives
  • 3 credits in Social Studies including U.S. History, World History, U.S. Government, & Economics 
  • 2 credits World Language
  • .5 credit Health
  • .5 Physical Education elective
  • On-line learning experience (completion of EDP)
  • 1 credit Visual, Fine or Performing Arts 
  • .5 Community Service (40+ hours)
  • 2.0 + elective credits

ENGLISH

Required Courses (4 Credits Required)

  • 9th Grade: English Language Arts (ELA-9) A and B
  • 10th Grade: ELA-10 A and B
  • 11th Grade: ELA-11 A and B
  • 12th Grade: ELA-12 A and B

 

SOCIAL STUDIES 

Required Courses (3 Credits Required)

  • 9th Grade: US History A and B
  • 10th Grade: Government A and Economics A
  • 11th Grade: World History & Geography A and B

 

MATHEMATICS

Required Courses (4 Credits Required)

  • 8th or 9th Grade: Algebra I A and B 
  • 9th or 10th Grade: Geometry A and B
  • 10th or 11th Grade: Algebra II/Trig. A and B 
  • 12th Grade: Advanced Math, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Probability & Statistics or Math elective

Recommended: Pre-Calculus /Probability and Statistics or any other Math-Related course 

 

SCIENCE 

Required Courses (3 Credits Required)

  • 9th Grade: Biology A and B 
  • 10th Grade: Chemistry A and B or Physics A and B
  • 11th Grade: Chemistry A and B or Physics A and B
  • 12th Grade: Electives (AP Chemistry, AP Biology, Pre-Engineering, Astronomy, or Anatomy and Physiology, Environmental Science, Forensic Science, other) 

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION & HEALTH

ON-LINE LEARNING EXPERIENCE 

As part of the Michigan Merit Curriculum, all students must accumulate twenty (20) hours of online experience before graduating.  Each student, through his/her enrollment in Oak Park courses in grades 9 – 12, will satisfy this requirement.
