District Mourns Loss of Beloved School Board Member Maxine Gutfreund

It is with great sadness and profound loss that the Oak Park School District, Board of Education, faculty, and staff mourn the passing of our colleague and friend, Mrs. Maxine Gutfreund. A member of the Oak Park School Board for over thirty-two years, Mrs. Gutfreund served as Trustee, President, and Treasurer during her long tenure. She was well known for her unwavering dedication to her role, to our district, and to public education causes and advocacy for all students of Oak Park.

A fierce advocate for the Oak Park community, Mrs. Gutfreund brought professionalism and business acumen to her work as a Board member. She was active, involved, and engaged in life and all of the issues before the Board. She will be missed. We offer our sincerest condolences and heartfelt prayers to her family and friends.

“Maxine Gutfreund was an incredible champion for the Oak Park School District, she believed in every child, every day,” said Superintendent Angel Abdulahad. “She leaves a void on our board, and in our hearts, that we won’t be able to fill.”

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 15, 2022, 11:30am at IRA KAUFMAN CHAPEL, 18325 W Nine Mile Rd, Southfield, MI 48075.
Interment at Oakview Cemetery, 1032 N Main St, Royal Oak, MI 48067.
