FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Oak Park School Board of Education has chosen Angel Abdulahad as its next superintendent. Mr. Abdulahad, currently the Madison District Public Schools superintendent, was unanimously selected to lead the Oak Park School District during the board’s May 31, 2022, meeting.
Mr. Abdulahad is a 1994 graduate of Oak Park High School and was one of seven candidates chosen to interview for the position from a field of 32 applicants.

Following first-round interviews, the school board narrowed the amount of candidates under consideration to two finalists who met with various stakeholder groups, presented on the topic of addressing COVID learning loss and hosted a subcommittee of the board for site visits at their respective worksites.

“I am ecstatic that I’m coming home,” Mr. Abdulahad said.

Mr. Abdulahad began his career as an educator in the School District of the City of Pontiac, where he was a high school Spanish and Bilingual ESL teacher, as well as the School Improvement Committee chair. He then taught ESL and Spanish in Madison District Public Schools before being promoted to principal of Madison High School and, ultimately, superintendent, a role in which he has served since March 2019.

Mr. Abdulahad is eager to get started.

“I’m excited and looking forward to opportunity to inspire and bring a sense of hope and optimism to students, staff, parents and all stakeholders,” he said.
