Oak Park student- athletes shine at Track and Field AAU Junior Olympics

AAU Junior Olympic 4x400m Relay Champions

Oak Park Schools was well-represented at the 2022 AAU Junior Olympics in Greensboro, North Carolina (North Carolina A&T University) August 1-6, 14,200 athletes competed at this year’s event, and three national championships were won by OPS student-athletes who compete with historic Motor City Track Club.

Top results by Oak Park School District athletes at the AAU Junior Olympics were as follows (the top eight finishers earn a medal and receive All-American distinction):

Morgan Roundtree (Class of 2024) won the national title in the 15-16-year-old girls division 400m Hurdles in a time of 59.34. That performance is the #5 time in the United States for all high schoolers this season. Morgan was also 3rd in the 100m Hurdles (14.31). 

Kylee King (Class of 2024) won the national title in the 15-16-year-old girls division 800m run in a time of 2:11.20. Kylee successfully defended her national title at the 2021 AAU Junior Olympics.

Roundtree and King teamed up with fellow OPHS Class of 2024 student Kelis Hunter-Young and clubmate Taryn Henderson to win the 15-16 girls division 4x400m Relay in a time of 3:47.09.

Janae Coleman, a rising 7th grader at Oak Park Preparatory Academy earned All American in three 12-year-old girls division events: 2nd place in the 400-meter dash, 57.35; 3rd 800-meter run, 2:20.2; 9th in 1500-meter run.

Carrie Vannoy (Class of 2025) earned All American in both 14-year-old girls’ division hurdle events:4th place in 100-meter hurdles, 14.79, and 4th in the 200m Hurdles, 27.79. Carrie was the #1 ranked high school freshman in the State of Michigan this track season. Her mother, Genia Redfern was a member of the 1982 Oak Park High School Girls Class B State Championship track team.
