State Superintendent Dr. Michael Rice visits OPHS

On Friday, December 2nd, Oak Park High School was the host of Michigan State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr. Michael F. Rice. Dr. Rice was in town to visit 2020 Michigan Teacher of the Year, OPHS English Teacher, Owen Bondono's classroom, and our distinguished knights’ students.

Dr. Rice's last stop at OPHS was with our distinguished knights’ students. The students were involved in a roundtable discussion that included Dr. Rice, OPHS English teacher, Owen Bondono, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning Cassandra Baptiste, and OPHS principal Sherri Buchzeiger. The roundtable was a great culminating event that allowed our students to meet with our State Superintendent, interact with him, and answer his questions. Our students relished the opportunity to showcase our outstanding school by discussing topics important to our students, teachers, staff, and school community.

Dr. Rice has toured dozens of schools across the state as he focuses on improving the state’s public schools, expanding innovation, and creating new opportunities for students to learn, grow, and successfully transition into the post-secondary plans of their choice.

Oak Park Schools is grateful for Dr. Rice’s time as he made amazing connections with our students and staff.
